Police identify pedestrian killed while trying to cross Dyer

Police identified the pedestrian killed when she was struck by a teenager while crossing Dyer Thursday morning.

Police said Jennifer Marie Long, 48, did not use the crosswalk while attempting to cross Dyer pushing a shopping cart shortly before 1 a.m.

Stephany Trinidad Rios was was traveling south on Dyer in a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt when she struck Long, police said.

Police said Long died at the scene. The department did not clarify whether Long was homeless. The wreck remains under investigation.

Police said this is the 24th traffic fatality of the year compared to 20 this time last year
