Fire crews battle blaze in Canutillo

A lack of fire hydrants near the scene of a fire inhibited fire crews from battling a late-night blaze in Canutillo.

Crews from West Valley and Anthony Fire Departments responded to the fire off of Campos Street Tuesday night.

WVFD’s Facebook post shows what appear to be a storage center on fire. Authorities described the fire as a “defensive operation,” which meant their focus was to protect anything else from catching fire in the area.

Another Facebook post read that there weren’t any fire hydrants near the scene and a shuttle was used to bring water from a hydrant located a mile away from the fire.

First responders were actively driving back and forth from the hydrants to refill and spray the fire.

No injuries have been reported at this time. No other information has been made available.
