Officer-involved shooting in Las Cruces

Law Cruces law enforcement officials are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened late Friday night.

A 29-year-old man died in the incident, according to Las Cruces police.

Around 10:30 p.m officers responded to a disturbance at a home on the 1900 block of Arlington Avenue.

Just after arriving to the scene, police said, a 29-year-old man “injured” an officer.

A second responding officer shot at the man, who later died at the scene.

The officer’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Part of Arlington Avenue, between Fairbanks Drive and Camino Del Rex, will remain closed as the investigation continues.

In accordance with Las Cruces police procedure, the officer who fired shots will be placed on standard administrative leave.
