Group donates thousands to Las Cruces public high school football programs

It was an exciting day for high school football in Las Cruces.

The Burger Time High School Football Foundation donated $7,500 to each of the city’s public high school football programs: Centennial, Oñate, Las Cruces and Mayfield.

“We’re very excited,” said Brad Beasley, the treasurer of the foundation.

The funds came from the foundation’s annual golf tournament, which started in 1993. The golf tournament stopped in 2016, but the endowment still grew steadily over the next 25 years, Beasley said. It now has $1 million.

The foundation handed each coach a check, personally, for their booster club.

“They use them for cleats, for game meals, better busses for travel,” Beasley said.

Since the foundation started donating money in 1993, a Las Cruces public high school football team has been in the state championship 20 times in 24 years.

“It’s been a great run since this thing started,” Beasley said.
