TRAFFIC ALERT: I-10 closed at downtown, massive delays eastbound
I-10 through downtown El Paso is closed in both directions for 57 hours starting Friday to rebuild the Kansas Street utility bridge. The closure started at 8 p.m. Friday and continues until 5 a.m. Monday.
Drivers should expect increased delays and travel time.
TXDOT cameras are showing delays going eastbound. Traffic is backed up to Schuster.
Detours through downtown and Mesa Street will be provided. However, Yandell Drive and Wyoming Ave will both be down to one lane, so expect increased congestion.
Drivers can also take Paisano Drive, US 54, Loop 375/Border Highway and Transmountain Road to avoid the closure.
TxDOT says crews will rebuild the utility bridge that was hit by a tractor-trailor on July 19. They will demolish and rebuild two support beams on the bridge and replace the guardrail along 1-10 west.
TxDOT says there may be more closures in the future.
Drivers can get more information on delays and closures on El Paso TxDOT’s twitter page.
