Kharisma James to be buried Monday

The mother who was hit by a car in a tragic accident in an elementary school parking lot on the first day of classes will be laid to rest on Monday.

Kharisma James, 33, was picking up her children, ages 6 and 7, from Tippin Elementary on Aug. 13 when Roger Hawkins, 58, backed up his car, hitting them and Athindra Kumar, 10. Hawkins has not been charged.

James’ children are no longer hospitalized, and Kumar is still in the hospital after suffering a punctured lung, among other injuries.

A memorial service was held in James’ honor on Saturday.

The obituary for James states that services for the Army veteran and nurse at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso will be held at the Abundant Living Faith Center in West El Paso at 7100 North Desert Boulevard.

The viewing starts at 10:30 a.m. and the funeral service is at 12:30 p.m.

She will be buried at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 2 p.m. The service is open to the public.
