Father accused of critically injuring toddler as he “taught” her how to walk

A 27-year-old father remains in jail after his arrest Friday night, charged with Injury to a Child after investigators say he struck his daughter so hard while “teaching” her how to walk, she sustained critical injuries.

Police say Anthony Williams’s daughter kept falling while trying to walk and he struck her several times.

The investigation began Friday morning at 12261 Tierra Canada in Far East El Paso.

Police arrived at the scene to find the girl unresponsive. She was taken to University Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries, police said.

An ABC-7 photographer saw yellow and red police tape blocking access to the street on Friday night, as the department’s mobile incident command center was parked in the middle of Tierra Canada.

Neighbor Laura Caban said fighting from Williams’ house was constant, “It very strong, very loud, very nasty, and I’m not going to say the words that he normally used on her. It waS just a constant thing between both of them.”

She added that one time she heard Williams yelling at a baby to eat her food and the baby was crying so loud, she could hear it across the street.

Williams’ address is listed at Ft. Bliss and ABC-7 is trying to confirm if he is on active duty.

His bond is $750,000.
