Las Cruces residents have hours left to vote in GO bond
In the final hours of the city’s general obligation bond election, Las Cruces officials are asking the public to hand-deliver their mail-in ballots.
“If they put it in the mail, there’s no way they’re going to get it by tomorrow,” said Mayor Ken Miyagishima.
Ballots must be delivered to the county clerk’s office on 845 North Motel Boulevard by 7 p.m. on Tuesday. As of Friday evening, the county had received 11,976 ballots, or almost 20 percent of eligible voters, according to the clerk’s office.
The city of Las Cruces is asking for a total of $35.6 million:
$16.9 million for park and recreational fields $9.8 million for a new stray animal and adoption center in addition to administration offices on the site of the existing facility $6.2 million to replace Fire Station No. 3, which was built in 1967, and increase the department’s capability to respond to the increasing demand $2.7 million walking jogging and biking trails
“The city does well, but nonetheless, this will just take us to a whole different level of amenities that I believe the city really needs to have,” Miyagishima said. “We have a lot of people moving in that will bring their children, and we definitely need more parks and more ball fields.”
Residents do not have to pass the bond in its entirety; they can vote on each individual item. County officials expect they should have results within one hour of the polls closing.
