YISD Mother: Scammer called offering ride service for daughter, knew child’s name

A YISD mother received an unsolicited phone call asking if her child needed transportation to school.

The caller knew the child’s full name when speaking with the parent, which frightened the mother.

The woman,Anna Nevarez, told ABC-7 the phone call came from a restricted number, meaning they could not be called back.

David Molina, the child’s grandfather, initially raised the alarm after speaking with his daughter about the call. They then went to the school district to find out if they were calling parents regarding a ride service.

The district told them the only time they setup transportation for a student is when the child has special needs and that transportation is always setup in person.

The Molina family then went to the police station to file a report.

“You should treat this like any other phone scam,” Molina said, “If you do feel like this is a scam, go immediately to a police station, especially, if it is dealing with children.”
