EPPD:Man riding scooter failed to yield right-of-way, killed in wreck

Police investigators said a man riding a scooter was killed when he failed to yield the right-of-way to a soldier driving an SUV.

The wreck happened Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 8:47 a.m. on the 9400 block of Gateway North.

Police said 57-year-old Mario Saenz, of Anthony, New Mexico, was riding a 2017 Wolf Scooter west on Diana.

At the same time, 19-year-old Zeus Woods, of Fort Bliss, was traveling North on the 9400 block of Gateway North in a 2010 Hyundai.

Police said Saenz made a right turn from Diana onto Gateway North and failed to yield the right-of-way to Woods.

“As a result, Wood’s Hyundai collided with Saenz and the scooter,” police said in a news release.

The impact of the crash caused Saenz to be thrown from his scooter and he suffered serious injuries.

Paramedics rushed Saenz to University Medical Center where he died.

No charges have been filed.
