Parkland wide receiver Khatib Lyles postpones commitment announcement
Parkland wide receiver Khatib Lyles announced on Twitter Thursday that he needs more time to mull over his college options before making a commitment.
Lyles was expected to make his announcement this month, but now schools such as UTEP and NMSU will likely have to wait a bit longer to see if they land the highly-touted prospect.
“After long, careful conversations, my family and I have decided to postpone my commitment date until further notice,” wrote Lyles in a note on Twitter. “We would like to ensure that I’m making the best decision possible for my future academic and athletic career. We appreciate your understanding in the matter.”
Lyles has multiple offers to consider beyond the Borderland. He’s received interest from schools including Texas Tech, Kansas, Utah, North Texas, Indiana, Air Force, and more.
His Parkland teammate, running back Deion Hankins, previously committed to UTEP after receiving multiple offers himself.
Lyles and Hankins have helped lead the Matadors to four wins and one tie so far this season. They’ll take on Hanks High School at home Friday night.
