Illuminated see-saws to be featured at this years Chalk The Block
A new interactive exhibit will be lighting up the downtown sidewalks at this years Chalk The Block. The event has come a long way since its start back in 2008.
“So, our first year we had about twelve artists and we drew about 5,000 people over the course of one day,” said Ben Fyffe, Assistant Director for City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department.
After the overwhelming support the event has received over the years, Chalk the Block organizers quickly realized they needed to expanded it to enhance the experience.
“Now we have over 200 artists, we go three days for the event and it now gets regular editorial coverage and attention from people throughout the region,” said Fyffe.
Chalk the Block is a way for El Paso to celebrate creativity through art, music, food and fun!
“We have everything from chalk artists to major installation artists. We have food trucks, kids activities and our museums are open with all sorts of fun ways to involve the public,” said Fyffe.
Every year different artists from around the world make their way to El Paso to showcase their chalk art on the streets of downtown, but this year one artist will be bringing something new and different to the event.
“The building of 20 see-saws on Mill Street by an artist collected out of Toronto. They light up and play music when actually two or more people activate the see-saws,” explained Fyffe.
The interactive acoustic illuminated see-saws will turn the streets of downtown El Paso into a space of urban play.
