Montoya Road to undergo safety improvements after fatal accident
Montoya road in the upper valley will soon be getting some improvements designed to make it safer. That’s the street where at 13-year old was struck by a driver and later died from her injuries.
Yesterday, city council learned from staff about aggressive efforts to make the street safer. Multi-way stop signs will be installed. Work will also be done to create sidewalks.
As many as ten speed bumps could be installed along the road. All of these moves are part of an effort to make drivers slow down, and keep pedestrians safe.
“After we put them in place, we’ll go out there and measure the speeds. if it continues to be a problem, we can add more. we just, 10 is a lot, you know, a lot of people are gonna see this and they may not be too happy,” says Rudy Pino of El Paso Streets and Maintenance department.
Upper valley residents have long complained about Montoya road. The work is expected to begin within the next two weeks.
