1 boy’s body recovered from water off Galveston, 1 sought
Searchers have recovered the body of an 11-year-old boy who disappeared while swimming near the Galveston seawall with a 16-year-old friend who’s still missing.
Officials with the Galveston Island Beach Patrol say the body of the younger child was located late Tuesday afternoon about 2 miles (3.22 kilometers) offshore. He and the teen were swimming Sunday afternoon as part of a group outing for children associated with a nonprofit shelter in Galveston.
Beach Patrol Chief Peter Davis has said authorities believe the older boy tried to rescue the younger one from a rip current and both apparently drowned.
The name of the 11-year-old boy wasn’t immediately released. The search continues for the older boy.
