NMSU cruises to victory in opener against North Dakota State
NMSU jumped out to a quick 16-3 lead and never looked back Tuesday night at the Pan American Center, as the Aggies won their season opener by a score of 73-56 over North Dakota State.
JoJo Zamora, a transfer from Utah, led a balanced Aggies attack with 16 points while Terrell Brown added 13 of his own. A total of 10 players scored for NMSU, and no player saw more than 22 minutes of action in an easy win to start the season.
NMSU crushed NDSU on the boards, grabbing 47 rebounds to just 31 for the Bison. That rebounding edge also helped the Aggies claim a 22-5 advantage in second chance points.
The lopsided win came despite the fact the Aggies hit only five of their 26 attempts from beyond the arc (19.2%).
That didn’t stop the Aggies from racing to a 36-20 halftime lead and a 27-point lead during the second half. They also never trailed from start to finish.
Rocky Kreuser scored 23 of the Bison’s 56 points, but no other NDSU player cracked double figures.
Attendance was reported to be 4,358 Tuesday night.
The Aggies will next host UTEP on Friday, Nov. 9. The Miners are also 1-0 on the season after defeating UT Permian Basin 90-63 in their opener.
