Sunland Park community helps family devastated by deadly fire

A tragic house fire has united the community of Sunland Park, now coming together to help the devastated family.

A fire Thursday morning claimed the life of 8-year-old Marisa Muñoz, a 3rd grade student at Desert View Elementary. Two other children inside the home were flown to a burn center in Lubbock, Texas.

The family lost everything in the fire.

Friday, the Gadsden Independent School District donated items to the family, everything from clothes, shoes and food.

A Sunland Park day care center is also lending a helping hand. The Bumble Bee Learning Center is currently accepting donations on behalf of the family.

ABC-7 spoke with a man who stopped by to donate. “I ask the entire community of Sunland Park to come together so we can help these people with everything we can, so they can overcome this crisis,” said Francisco Perez, a Sunland Park resident, “These good people are in need right now and maybe one day we will be the ones needing this help. So i ask everyone to come together to help this family.”

If you’d like to help the family, you can send your donations to the daycare at 2290 McNutt Road in Sunland Park and at 5805 McNutt Road in Santa Teresa.
