Human remains found in the New Mexico desert outside Sunland Park
Investigators with The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department are in the desert west of Sunland Park after the discovery of what appears to be human remains.
The sheriff’s department said the remains were found just before 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon near the 100 block of Los Pinos Court.
A Sunland Park man told detectives he was walking in the area with his family on New Year’s Day when the saw what appeared to be a human skull and bones.
The University of New Mexico Office of the Medical Examiner is also responding. Detectives say it is too early to tell how long the remains have been there, or whether or not they are male or female.
