Economic forecast promising for El Paso

A new economic outlook forecast contains some big news for the Borderland’s economy.

According to UTEP’s top economic expert, the El Paso community to grow behind the strength of its population, which recently topped 800,000 residents.

Professor Thomas Fullerton’s forecast covers economic trends for Las Cruces, El Paso, Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua City.

The Mexican currency of the peso has also been gaining strength and has helped the Borderland economy reach over $13 billion in overall commercial activity.

The forecast also calls for a stable housing market as the average price for previously built homes is projected to top $153,000 per unit by 2020.

“This is one of the regions that has posted some of the most consecutive and sustainable growth rates of the entire country and for that reason El Paso now has more than 800-thousand residents within the county,” Fullerton said.

However, it is not all good news as the report also points out that El Paso remains weak when it comes to employee wages, high school and university graduation rates.
