Community Champions: Franklin girls soccer team enters playoffs with high hopes
The Franklin girls soccer team has already had a stellar season, but they have a chance now to make it historic.
The Cougars will enter the 6A state playoffs with a 20-0 record after a 10-0 mark in district action, according to records available on MaxPreps.
So far, no one has been able to solve the problems that the Cougars throw at them with their combination of superb defense and explosive offense.
Midland High School is the next team that will try to crack the code in the first round of the playoffs on Friday in Artesia, N.M.
Many figured the Cougars were primed for a terrific season, but their hard work has turned it into a perfect year so far.
“Coming into the season I saw a group of highly-motivated girls that were just ready to work and ready to play hard for a great season. They are the most unselfish players, which helps them be successful on the field,” said Franklin head coach Lorie Little.
Many of the players have been together since they were younger, and that chemistry has certainly paid off. While they have the ability to take home a state title, they say they can’t look ahead that far just yet.
“Our goal is always winning. It’s always a championship,” said defender and team co-captain Alexa Chavez. “We like to take it one step at a time though. We like to think about one game. And then when that’s over, then we go on to the next game.”
Every team is looking for a secret to success. And while the Cougars have plenty of talent, they say their secret isn’t so secret at all. It’s just good, old-fashioned hard work.
“We all put in hard work at each individual practice that we have,” said fellow co-captain Jackie Miller. “We take it step-by-step, and if we don’t see results, then we keep on working and working until we get it.”
