YOU CAN WATCH THE NEWS CONFERENCE LIVE BELOW AT 2:30 PM:
Every day, the U.S. Border Patrol in El Paso detains hundreds of migrants, most from Central America, who are seeking asylym in the U.S.
ICE, claiming it no longer has enough space to house the migrants, releases the migrants after they have been processed. At that point, shelters like Annunciation House step in to house the migrants while they meet up with relatives or sponsors elsewhere in the U.S.
In El Paso last week, the commissioner of Customs and Border Protection said the U.S. immigration system had reached its “breaking point” as he urged Congress to address the issue with new legislation.
