Chihuahuas drop second straight game against Las Vegas
The El Paso Chihuahuas surrendered eight runs in the top of the third inning Friday night and were never able to recover from the eary 8-0 deficit against the Las Vegas Aviators.
Las Vegas would go on to win 12-4 to grab their second straight victory over the Chihuahuas to begin the 2019 season. They also defeated the Chihuahuas 9-8 in a dramatic game Thursday.
After falling behind 8-0, Esteban Quiroz did lift the spirits of Chihuahuas fans when he launched a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to get his team on the board.
Quiroz has now hit a home run in each of the first two games of the season.
Jose Pirela and Ty France also each drove in a run in the loss Friday night for the Chihuahuas.
But hopes of a comeback would be dashed in the top of the ninth inning when Las Vegas again exploded. This time they tallied four runs in the top half of the inning thanks in large part to a three-run homer courtesy of Mark Payton.
The Chihuahuas also did themselves no favors defensively, tallying a total of three errors in the contest.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. for game three of their five-game series to begin the season.
