Shooting reported at Mount Cristo Rey
According to Ruben Escandon, the Vice President of the Mount Cristo Rey Restoration Committe, a hiker accidentally shot himself near the entrance to Mount Cristo Rey around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
According to Escandon, the hiker attempted to climb over the gate, which was locked, while carrying a pistol. The pistol went off, causing a self-inflicted wound to the hiker’s groin area.
Escandon told ABC-7 the hiker was transpoted to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The scene has been cleared.
