Las Cruces man accused of strangling pregnant girlfriend
Las Cruces Police have arrested Daniel Madrid who allegedly strangled his pregnant girlfriend and kept her from leaving the house on Tuesday evening.
Police say the argument began around 8 PM on Tuesday and the argument eventually turned physical. Madrid allegedly held her down and forced her to stay in the house.
The woman was able to flee and tried to get help at a neighbor’s apartment, but police say Madrid followed her, grabbed her from behind, and strangled her while covering her nose and mouth. Police say she was eventually able to break free and call 911 .
A Las Cruces Police officer was then able to find and detain Madrid.
Madrid was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s initially being held without bond. He is charged with three third-degree felony counts of aggravated battery against a household member, a fourth-degree felony count of false imprisonment, and misdemeanor counts of interference with communications and battery.
