Affidavit: Man sexually assaulted 4 children, used threat of deportation to keep them quiet

A Sunland Park man is accused of sexually assaulting four children and then using the threat of deportation against close relatives of the victims in order to keep the victims from reporting him to police.

Pablo Juan Garnica 41, of the 300 block of Carrizo Drive in Sunland Park, is facing ten counts of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor. Garnica is also referred to as Juan Pablo Garnica in some court documents.

A criminal complaint affidavit obtained by ABC-7 states one of the victims cried out for help at school. Authorities were immediately notified and an investigation revealed Garnica sexually assaulted the victim and three other children over several years, a criminal complaint states.

One of the victims told investigators Garnica said that if the victim reported him to police, he would contact immigration authorities and have people close to the victim deported.

Police arrested Garnica on the 1000 block of McNutt in Sunland Park on April 11, 2019. Garnica is being held without bond.
