One man dead, another injured after El Paso man causes fatal head-on collision in Las Cruces

An El Paso man has been arrested for allegedly causing a fatal head-on collision in Las Cruces.

It happened Saturday, April 27 at around 1:20 a.m. on Interstate 25 near mile marker 1.

New Mexico State police said 41-year-old Daniel Medina was driving a 2009 Ford the wrong way on I-25 North.

Medina’s vehcile then collided with a 2008 Toyota driven by a 26-year-old man who has not been identified.

That collision caused 21-year-old Austin Wagner of White Sands Missile Range, who was driving a 2007 Yahama motorcycle, to collide with Medina’s vehicle.

Investigators said Wagner died from his injuries. The 26-year-old was sent to the hospital. His injuries are unknown at this time.

New Mexico State police said alcohol does appear to be a factor.

Medina was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with several charges including vehicular homicide, DWI, driving without a license and no insurance among others.

Authorities are also charging him with possesion of an open contanier.

Medina did not suffer any serious injuries and was treated at the scene.

Investigators said no additional information has been released.
