EPPD: Drunk driving and speeding to blame for deadly wreck

Police say drunk driving and speeding are to blame for the wreck that claimed the life of an El Paso man early Wednesday morning.

Thursday, investigators identified the man killed in the wreck as 30-year-old Daniel Heriberto Dalli, of the 12000 block of Willowmist in El Paso.

The wreck happened at about 2 a.m. in the 7700 block of Gateway East, near Giles, on May 8, 2019.

Police said Dalli was driving a 2006 Acura TSX on I-10 East.

According to special traffic investigators, Dalli was driving at a “high rate of speed” as he exited the freeway on the McRae exit.

Dalli, police said, “crossed all three lanes of traffic and lost control (of the vehicle) on landscaping, causing his vehicle to roll.”

Police said Dalli was thrown from the car and died at the scene.

29-year-old Jose Angel Enriquez Jr., Dalli’s passenger, was transported to Del Sol Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

“Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in this collision,” police said.

This is the 25th traffic fatality of 2019 compared to 16 at the same time in 2018.
