Arrest made in deadly Las Cruces lounge shooting; victim identified
Police on Sunday identified a man shot dead near Halo’s Ultra Lounge in Las Cruces on Friday and said they arrested a man in connection with the murder.
Adam Alexander Torres, 24, is charged with one count of murder in the death of Rogelio Alexander Baeza, according to court records. He also faces a charge of attempted murder.
After responding to a shots fired call early Friday morning, an officer found Baeza dead in the lounge parking lot, police said.
Surveillance video seems to show Baeza and another man in a white Acura with Torres in the front seat, according to the officer’s report. Torres exited the vehicle and allegedly fired shots at Baeza and the other male, according to police.
The third man told the officer that Torres owed Baeza hundreds of dollars, according to police. They had reportedly planned to take shots at Halo’s Ultra Lounge.
He later heard a “click or racking of the gun and he ran for his life,” according to the court records. That third male told police he saw Torres fire the shots at Baeza, the officer wrote.
