Man hurt in Lower Valley El Paso carjacking hit & run; thief remains on the loose

Police said a 36-year old El Paso man was injured in a hit-and-run that started as a carjacking Thursday morning in the Lower Valley.

It happened just after 6:30 a.m in the 200 block of Americas near the intersection of Soccoro Road.

Police said they located the vehicle less an hour later, and not far away, on Nevarez Road and Alameda Avenue in Socorro. Two people were taken into custody, but police said they later determined the pair were not involved.

Investigators said the victim, identified as Alejandro Morales, stopped at a convenience store and left his car running as he went inside. That’s when an unknown man got into car to steal it.

“Mr. Morales was able to catch up to the vehicle however could not hold on. He subsequently fell and was run over by the vehicle,” according to the police incident report.

Fire dispatchers said Morales suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
