UTEP Makes changes to its tailgating rules

UTEP has heard the pleas from students and fans, and the university is making some changes to its tailgating rules.

Monday, Director of UTEP Athletics Jim Senter announced UTEP’s 2019 football game day fan and tailgating policies.

Tailgating patrons will no longer be required to enter the stadium at the end of the first quarter. Tablets and cameras will now be allowed in the stadium.

RV parking, located in the SC1 lot on Schuster Avenue, will now be available at 8 a.m. the day prior to each home game. Previously, the lot opened at 5 p.m. the day before the game. RV season passes are $250 and are available by calling (915) 747-6150.

Accessibility of the Sun Bowl Stadium to UTEP students will be more convenient than ever before with the abolishment of the sports lottery system.

Eligible UTEP students can gain entrance to the venue by having their Miner Gold card scanned at the gate on game day.

Prior to game day, student guest tickets can be purchased on the 1st floor of the Union Building East and the UTEP Ticket Center (2901 North Mesa Street). On game days, student guest tickets can be purchased at the UTEP Ticket Center, the UTEP Ticket Center Eastside Location (1452 North Zaragoza Suite A-500), or the Sun Bowl Box Office.

Inner campus tailgating will now begin at noon on game day, with start times for the Miners’ first four home games being pushed back from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and out of respect for students attending Saturday morning classes.

Outer campus tailgating will continue to commence at 8 a.m. on game day.

Centennial Plaza will be available for picnic-style, soft tailgating (i.e. blankets only) at noon on game day.

Tents, grills, tables/chairs or organized sports/activities are not allowed in Centennial Plaza.

Wheelchair/ADA seating and parking have been adjusted temporarily for the 2019 season due to the ongoing stadium renovations.

Wheelchair/ADA seating is available in sections 3, 5 and 7 on the concourse level of the west side of the stadium.

These sections may only be accessed through the north or south stadium entrances due to construction.

Wheelchair/ADA seating is also available in Sections 13 and 15 on the concourse level in the north end zone of the stadium, and in section 19 on the concourse level in the UTEP student section on the east side of the stadium.

ADA parking will continue to be located in the SC2 lot off of Schuster Drive by the roundabout of the Spur 1966.

Shuttles will be available from the parking area to the north Sun Bowl entrance for patrons with wheelchair/ADA-designated seating beginning two hours before kickoff, with resumption at the end of the third quarter until all patrons have been serviced.
