Texas woman using billboards in El Paso to search for childhood friend

A San Antonio woman is using billboards in El Paso to find a childhood friend from over 70 years ago.

Rebecca “Becky” Rodriquez, 82, met Enedina at the St. Maragret’s Orphanage in El Paso in 1921-1945.

“We were just like two peas in a pod, we were so close. Always played together, slept next to each other,” Becky told ABC-7.

Becky said when she was adopted, she never got the chance to say goodbye to Enedina and never heard from her again.

About a month ago, Becky decided to start looking for Enedina to find out what she has been up to for all these years, or to see if she is still alive.

In tears, Becky said, “All these years I’ve told my children about Enedina. Those three years were the happiest days ever because we never experienced fear in the orphanage.” She added, “I always look back to the wonderful times with Enedina at the orphanage because we have a glorious time together and I just wonder what happened to her.”

The St. Margaret’s Orphanage opened up in 1919. According to the El Paso Center for Children website, in 1982, “the Board of Directors at St. Margaret’s and Southwestern wanted to expand and diversify their services to children and families” and turned into the El Paso Center for Children.
