Two junior college quarterbacks added to UTEP 2019 roster
The one big question mark headed into the upcoming season for the UTEP Miners is who will be the starting quarterback?
Last year’s starter, Kai Locksley, was supposed to be the starter once again, but his legal troubles have put his status on the team in limbo.
Now the Miners are moving forward with signing two junior college quarterbacks in order to give the Miners some options at the quarterback position.
UTEP confirmed to ABC-7 that they’ve signed Gavin Hardison out of New Mexico, and Isaiah Bravo from California.
Hardison graduated from Hobbs High School in 2017, and while at Hobbs he threw for 5,347 passing yards that ranked him second nationally in passing yards.
Hardison played in 5 games last season as a freshman at New Mexico Military Institute where he three for 408 yards and 4 touchdowns.
The Miners have also added Isaiah Bravo to the 2019 roster who is from Cerritos College in California.
During his two years at Cerritos, Bravo threw for 2,125 yards and 20 touchdowns.
These recent moves come following Locksley’s arrest in June when he was charged with unlawful carrying of a gun and making a terroristic threat.
Locksley is currently suspended from the team while the legal process plays out.
If Locksley does stay on the team, the Miners will have a total of 7 scholarship players at the quarterback position.
Other quarterbacks on the roster are Brandon Jones, who saw some playing time last season, also El Paso Eastwood product Mark Torrez and fresman TJ Goodwin, and freshman Calvin Brownholtz.
