California man killed, 2 El Pasoans seriously hurt in Hudspeth County head-on highway crash
A head-on crash in Hudspeth County this weekend killed a California man and injured two El Pasoans, authorities said.
The two-vehicle crash happened Saturday around 5:30 a.m. near mile-marker 76 along U.S. Highway 62/180; officials shut down the highway approximately 22 miles east of the Border Patrol checkpoint for hours while they investigated.
According to the Texas Department of Safety, 29-year-old Gildrado Alberto Andujo Gonzalez from Glendale, California was driving westbound on U.S. 62/180 in a Honda Accord, when he crossed over onto the wrong side of the highway striking an eastbound Ford 150 pickup towing another vehicle.
Andujo Gonzalez died as a result of his injuries. The driver of the pickup-up truck, 30-year-old Marcos Hernandez from El Paso, and the passenger, 22-year-old Luis Angel Garcia also from El Paso, were seriously injured and flown by helicopter to area hospitals.
DPS officials said the highway was wet and slick at the time of the deadly crash due to overnight rainfall.
