Nearly 200 undocumented migrants found in southwest New Mexico

U.S. Border Patrol agents have apprehended 194 undocumented migrants in southwest New Mexico, officials said Monday.

The undocumented migrants in this group were primarily of Central American families — from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador — and unaccompanied children, agents said.

According to the Border Patrol, agents encountered the group at 3 a.m. Sunday attempting to illegally enter at the camp Bounds Forward Operating Base adjacent to the Antelope Wells Port of Entry.

Officials said although recent monthly figures show a decrease in border apprehensions, they continue to arrest high numbers of undocumented migrants entering the U.S. compared to last year.

“This high number of apprehensions continue to present a challenge to our border operations as this remains a national security and humanitarian crisis,” a Border Patrol news release said.
