The ABC-7 First Alert has been lifted. Scattered snow showers moved into the borderland making it a wintry start for Wednesday commuters. Large snowflakes came down in west El Paso and slowly drifted east hitting the northeast and east sides of town.

The snow caused slushy conditions on the area roads and made it difficult for some travelers. Over the past 24 hours, the El Paso Airport received 0.19" of precipitation, the Las Cruces Airport picked up 0.07". Tuesday was filled with a combination of wintry weather which included thunderstorms, rain, hail, and snow. The observed snowfall for this month is 2.9" yesterday's winter storm dropped 0.6" at the El Paso Airport.

We've actually already had a month's worth of precipitation and it's only the 12th. This month, we have accumulated 0.66" of precipitation at the El Paso Airport, during the month of February we average .46". Last year we ended the month with 0.11". Despite the snow moving out the clouds and fog will make it difficult for travel conditions across the area. Slow down, add some space and use low beams.

The storm system will move off to the east by this afternoon bringing an end to all rain chances. Drier air and warming temperatures will quickly return through the weekend. The next weather system we are tracking will move in on Monday and Tuesday.
