Father of 2-year-old arrested after New Mexico Amber Alert is canceled
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — New Mexico State Police have canceled an Amber Alert for a 2-year-old Albuquerque boy after the boy was found safely, ABC affiliate KOAT reported.
Albuquerque police said they found 2-year-old Johnny Arias on Monday morning and took the boy’s father, Jose Rito Arias, into custody.
Investigators said Arias took the young boy without permission the day before. The Amber Alert was issued around 11 p.m. Sunday night.
Arias was arrested without incident after officers found his car in southwest Albuquerque, less than a mile from where the boy went missing.
Court records show that he has a criminal history that includes manslaughter, aggravated battery and child abuse.
