El Paso native Steven Montez signing as undrafted free agent with NFL’s Redskins
EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso native Steven Montez has a home in the National Football League.
After going unpicked in the NFL Draft, Montez is signing as an undrafted free agent with the Washington Redskins.
Montez, a Class 5A All-State honors-earning Del Valle High School alum, spent his collegiate career at Colorado - which tweeted out confirmation of him becoming a Redskin on Saturday evening.

During his time at the University of Colorado as quarterback, the 6-foot-4 and 228-pound Montez set more than 40 school records.
He left Colorado as the school's all-time leader in passing yards (9,569) and passing touchdowns.
Prior to the draft, Montez played in the Senior Bowl and also had a good showing at the NFL Combine, where he ran a 4.68 in the 40-yard dash.
With the Redskins, Montez will have to compete for a spot on the roster. The team already has three quarterbacks: Dwayne Haskins Jr., Alex Smith (who hopes to return from injury), and Kyle Allen.
