105 new El Paso virus cases as triple-digit increases continue for 3rd straight day
EL PASO, Texas -- For a third day in a row, El Paso is reporting another triple-digit spike in new coronavirus cases.
The El Paso Department of Public Health said there were 105 additional infections on Saturday, no no new deaths and a small decrease in hospitalizations.
The Covid-19 death toll in El Paso still stands at 58. The number of patients currently hospitalized dropped slightly from 119 to 116, health officials said. But one more person was listed in intensive care, bringing the total now to 66, and 22 of those patients are on ventilators.
Not included in the death toll is the mother of an El Paso Community College trustee who died Friday afternoon. She is not yet part of the health department's official count because officials say there is typically a lag in reporting deaths to complete the epidemiological investigation. The deceased woman's husband is one of those patients who is on a ventilator.
Of the total of 2,265 cases to date, 999 are currently active. Since the start of the pandemic, 1,208 El Pasoans diagnosed with the virus have recovered
El Paso city and county leaders have expressed concern that the Memorial Day holiday weekend will fuel the recent surge in cases as people ignore warnings to avoid mass gatherings.
