Juárez finishes week with 52 virus deaths and record-setting levels of new cases

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico -- The city of Juárez recorded six additional coronavirus deaths on Saturday — for a total of 52 this week and 260 since the pandemic began.

To date there were now 322 fatalities statewide in Chihuahua.

Health officials also reported "another day in high peak of infections" with 95 new cases in the state, of which 65 were from Juárez.

The medical director of Mexico's northern zone, Arturo Valenzuela Zorrilla, said it was a second record-setting day for new cases.

The city of Juárez now has a cumulative tally of 1,187 confirmed virus cases, contributing to a statewide caseload of 1,926.
