Cincinnati, OH (WLWT) — The Cincinnati Zoo announced Tuesday that one of its red pandas, Lin, is pregnant again.
The zoo announced the news during Tuesday’s Home Safari Facebook Live video. Tuesday also happened to be Lin’s 7th birthday.
The red panda will be having her sixth litter.
Veterinarians at the zoo have taken a few different ultrasounds of Lin this year and said they’ve been able to see a healthy looking fetus.
Red panda pregnancies can vary in length. A female red panda can be pregnant anywhere between 90 and 150 days, so it can be hard to predict when they will actually have their cubs. Veterinarians have been tracking Lin’s pregnancy by ultrasound so they can get a better idea of when she’ll produce the cubs.
They expect the cubs to be born around the end of June or early July.
Red pandas produce one to four cubs per pregnancy. The zoo is not sure how many cubs Lin is expected to have this time around, and they will not know until she actually gives birth.
Lin was born at the Cincinnati Zoo and has remained there her whole life.
