EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso police were searching Friday for the attacker who stabbed a 31-year-old man nine times after they found the victim lying on a sidewalk.

John Lewis Soria was listed in critical but stable condition at University Medical Center.

Officers said they found Soria on a sidewalk in the 5000 block of Alameda Avenue shortly before 8:30 a.m. suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Soria couldn't identify has attacker, police said, but indicated that the assault took place at 134 N. Clark.

Investigators were trying to piece together exactly what happened.
