Aggies, Lobos both seek to improve struggling offenses in Battle of I-25 rivalry
Rivalry week is here. Bragging rights are on the line when New Mexico State clashes with in-state foe New Mexico in the Battle of I-25 at 2:30 p.m. Mountain time on Saturday inside Dreamstyle Stadium in Albuquerque.
The two schools will meet for the 110th time in history, with the Lobos holding a 71-33-5 all-time series lead over the Aggies — including a 40-14-3 advantage on their home turf. New Mexico State has maintained the upper hand since 2016, however, winning two of the previous three matchups.
New Mexico State at 0-3 so far this season is coming off a 31-10 setback loss to San Diego State last week in their home opener, where the offense could not match the defense’s success. The Aggies struggled with ineffectiveness and turnovers in the first half of that game and couldn’t recover.
New Mexico enters Saturday’s tilt with a 1-1 overall record, coming off of a 66-14 loss at No. 7 Notre Dame. Quarterback Sheriron Jones made the start and threw three interceptions before giving way to backup Tevaka Tuioti in the second half, who led the Lobos on a 75-yard fourth-quarter scoring drive against Notre Dame. Tuioti is expected to get the start versus New Mexico State.
