Father arrested for murder as police say body found in Rio Grande in west El Paso was his daughter
EL PASO, Texas -- A father has been arrested on a murder charge after police identified his teenage daughter as the body found over the weekend in the water of the Rio Grande in west El Paso.
Drownings of migrants in the fast currents along the Rio Grande are not unusual, but in this case police said Wednesday it wasn't a drowning -- but rather the teen's body was dumped into the river.
"Through the investigation detectives found that 39-year old Ghari Ingraham killed his daughter during an incident of family violence at their home at 151 S. Resler. Ingraham disposed of the body and later reported his daughter missing," said Sgt. Enrique Carrillo.
The body of 17-year old Carissia Ingraham was discovered by a fisherman in the Rio Grande near Executive Center Boulevard and Paisano Drive on about 10:50 a.m. Sunday. Authorities have not said how she was killed.
Ghari Ingraham was being held Wednesday in the El Paso County Detention Facility on $750,000 bond. Court records show he has a bond hearing scheduled for Friday.
