2 fugitive brothers arrested near Dallas for murder of 27-year-old El Pasoan last year

UPDATE, Feb. 4: El Paso police announced the arrests Thursday of two brothers wanted in the murder of another El Paso man last year.

24 –year old Randy Alexander Martel and 26 –year old Christopher Rick Martel were taken into custody in Carrollton, Texas after their vehicle was stopped for speeding.

Both are being held on $1 million bond apiece in the Dallas County jail as they await extradition to El Paso for the killing of Julio Minjares on Ashwood Drive in Deecember.

UPDATE, Dec. 14: Police on Monday identified the victim of a weekend shooting in east El Paso as 27–year old Julio Minjares.

Detectives said Minjares had been involved in a fight with people at a home on Ashwood Drive on Friday night. They said he left and later returned with three friends to confront the individuals he fought with.

"Minjares was shot during the exchange and died as a result of his injuries," said Det. Diane Mack.

Despite word on Saturday of an arrest in the shooting, police said Monday that no arrests had yet been made.

ORIGINAL REPORT, Dec. 12: EL PASO, Texas -- One victim was dead a suspect was arrested in an overnight shooting in east El Paso.

It happened early Saturday in the 10500 block of Ashwood Drive.

Detectives were on scene around 3:30 a.m.

Investigators didn't offer a motive for the gunfire.

No further details were immediately available.
