Sweet 16 4A baseball playoffs: Riverside falls to Stephenville in game 1, 11-6
MIDLAND, Texas - The Riverside Rangers are down, but not out.
On Friday, the Rangers lost the first game of the best-of-three series against the Stephenville Yellow Jackets, 11-6.
On the line for the winner of this series is a trip to the elite 8 of the Class 4A playoffs.
The Yellow Jackets would jump out in front early in the game putting up 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Stephenville would take a 5-0 lead into the 4th inning.
Riverside would battle back in the top of the 4th and tie the game at 5 runs piece.
However, it didn't take long for the Yellow Jackets to break the deadlock in the bottom of the 4th inning going up 8-5.
Riverside would pull within three, 9-6, in the 6th inning, but once again the Yellow Jackets would add some more insurance in the bottom of the 6th tacking on two more runs.
11-6 would be the final score from game one.
Riverside is now in a must win situation heading into Saturday's game two.
The Rangers will have to win two games in row to win the series, but Riverside has been here before and they know what it takes to bounce back in the playoffs.
Saturday's game two is scheduled for 10 a.m. MT.
If the Rangers win the game to force a deciding game three, that game will take place 30 minutes after the conclusion of the second game.
