ABC-7 Storm Track Weather – Rain Chances Increase Friday Night Into Saturday as Cooler Weather Moves Into the Borderland

KVIA

The Borderland is preparing for a wet and noticeably cooler weekend as rain chances increase Friday night into Saturday. A high-pressure system building over the Texas Panhandle is bringing light but persistent easterly winds overnight, helping maintain cooler conditions across the region.

Forecast models are increasingly pointing toward a system developing farther south, which could draw additional moisture into southern New Mexico and West Texas. This shift is increasing confidence in the potential for widespread showers, particularly along and east of the Rio Grande.

Rain showers are expected to begin developing across southwestern New Mexico Friday afternoon before gradually spreading east along the international border Friday evening and overnight. Showers could persist through much of Saturday, with areas east of El Paso and across the Rio Grande Valley likely seeing the longest-lasting precipitation.

Overall rainfall totals are expected to range from light to moderate, with the highest amounts forecast near and east of the Rio Grande. Although widespread heavy rainfall is not anticipated, periods of showers and extensive cloud cover will contribute to a significant drop in temperatures.

Saturday is expected to bring the coolest conditions, with afternoon temperatures struggling to climb out of the upper 50s across much of the lowlands. Highs could run 10 to 15 degrees below seasonal averages, making for a chilly and damp day across the Borderland.

The cooldown, however, will be short-lived. As the weather system moves away, temperatures are expected to gradually recover early next week, returning to near-normal levels by Wednesday.
