SWAT standoff with ‘armed subjects’ in far east El Paso ends

EL PASO, Texas -- A SWAT team descended on a far east El Paso apartment complex late Thursday morning as police said a standoff ensued when they tried to execute "high risk" search and arrest warrants.

"Subjects believed to be armed refusing to exit," police tweeted about 11:30 a.m. as SWAT arrived on scene in the 4100 block of Rich Beam Boulevard.

A police spokesman said SWAT was able to make entry just after noon to the apartment where the 'armed subjects' were apparently holed up; officers cleared the scene a short time later.

Reports indicated the SWAT team's presence was requested by officers who were already at the apartment complex, where they had been dispatched around 8 a.m. for an unknown emergency.

No further details were provided by authorities as of late Thursday afternoon.
