El Paso’s Segundo Barrio named to National Register of Historic Places
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- El Paso's Segundo Barrio was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the National Parks Service Friday morning.
Historian Max Grossman confirmed the news with ABC-7 after speaking with Paul Lusignan, the historian for the National Register of Historic Places who oversees all applications from Texas.
Grossman said 686 properties in the south El Paso neighborhood are a part of the historic district.
The designation makes tax credits available to hundreds of property owners if they choose to renovate their properties.
In 2016, the El Paso County Commissioners approved an architectural survey of downtown and portions of south El Paso. The survey was completed in 2017 and that led to Segundo Barrio's nomination to the register.
