Ruben Blades: Power doesn’t corrupt, power unmasks

MEXICO CITY (AP) — This week proved to be a good time for musician and actor Ruben Blades to reflect on his remarkable life and career. He was honored Wednesday as the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year, and took home two Latin Grammys at Thursday’s ceremony. Blades, who left Panama while it was under military rule, reflected in an interview with The Associated Press about what it would have been like if he’d won his bid in 1994 to be nation’s president. He says it would have been a great honor and worth more than all the Grammys he has won, and believes he would have been a good and corruption-free leader for the country.
