AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas could receive coronavirus vaccine doses to immunize up to 700,000 Texans in December, assuming U.S. health officials approve coronavirus vaccine candidates from drugmakers Pfizer and Moderna, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Wednesday afternoon.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has promised to send Texas as many as 1.4 million doses of forthcoming vaccines in the month of December, Abbott said.

The vaccines require two doses per person, and state health officials have said health care workers will be first in line.

Abbott said the vaccine candidates would likely arrive in Texas the week of Dec. 14.

"The State of Texas is already prepared for the arrival of a Covid-19 vaccine, and will swiftly distribute these vaccines to Texans who voluntarily choose to be immunized," Abbott said in a news release.

He added, "As we await the first shipment of these vaccines, we will work with communities to mitigate the spread of Covid-19."

  1. Says he’s going to work to mitigate the spread of the virus. When does he plan to start? He’s had 9 months so far and only given the problem token attention. Better than the scum orange buffoon but still not good.

    1. Governor Abbott was doing a good job until he caved in to economic interests over health experts. He has done much better than the orange buffoon but not as good as Governor Grisham in NM. Abbott is a decent guy but not the ‘best’.

        1. I never said we should keep it open. I said we have no way to close it due to the economic considerations. I merely question how it would be possible. One thing that could be done is to narrow the definition of what the word ‘essential’ is.

  2. If we get these 700,000 doses of vaccine, how can we be assured that Republicans are prohibited from getting it? They said the virus is a hoax so they don’t need it.

      1. I think you’re referring to the orange buffoon and his filthy henchmen who oversaw the separation of children from their parents like at Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen. You’re a little too light on the history of WW2 to be discussing anything Hitler and his racist crew did between 1939 and 1945.

        1. Nope I know exactly what I am talking about. The Trump administration separate children at the bordert tobprotect them from the coyote who only intend to sell them intonslavery or use them to get “families’ across the border. You on the other hand, want anyone who thinks or looks different than you eliminated. Thats as close to Hitler as you can get. Mark Turner. The actual Nazi. NH

          1. As usual nothing you say has the slightest validity. You’re a moron just like your daddy the orange buffoon.

          2. Still waiting on you to come and kick my assyou do remember hitler was a socialist liberal, right?

          1. No one ever said they were going to “come kick your ass.” I said “don’t let me catch you harassing immigrants”, and I mean that. You can’t bust a grape. I’ve got something for you that’s much worse than simply giving you the whipping you should have gotten from your parents when you started exhibiting racist tendencies. See Jeff, you are human scum and on top of that you are an orange buffoon supporter which is about the same thing.

          2. Hitler’s political agenda was an ultra conservative movement aimed at replacing the very liberal Weimar Republic that gained power after WW1.

        1. Never lived in Maryland and have never been a security guard, lard ass. I have been a county cop, a city cop, and just retired from a federal law enforcement agency in late May. You, on the other hand, have been thrown out of the Navy, no career and aren’t allowed to be in possession of a firearm or ammo.

  3. To all you Trump & Republican haters, I just got a call from my doctor saying that as soon as he gets his vaccine doses, I’m at the top of the list, underneath medical personnel & first responders to get inoculated. Even though I’m retired, I’m still considered “essential” to the DOE community. Oh, and in case you haven’t guessed, I’m a registered Republican!

    1. Why are you going to get one? To you Nazis, its a hoax, isn’t it? You should not be allowed to have a vaccine as they should be saved for decent Americans.
