El Paso native and ‘Escape the Fate’ drummer returns for free show on Friday night
EL PASO, Texas -- An El Paso native will return to the Sun City for a free concert on Friday night.
"El Paso is my home," 'Escape the Fate' drummer Robert Ortiz told ABC-7. "That's my heart. It always will be."
The concert will start at 8 p.m. at Speaking Rock Entertainment Center. As a member of the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo and the "Tigua" Native American tribe, the venue is very special for Ortiz.
"To have my family there, I'm nervous," the drummer admitted. "This tribe is my heart. That's how I was raised."
It's been six months since Ortiz returned to the Sun City to helped collect money for victims of the mass shooting on August 3rd.
"For me, personally it feels like there's always more to be done so that something like this never happens again," Ortiz said.
While El Paso must never forget the tragedy or the victims, the drummer told ABC-7 that this generation should raise their children to have love in their hearts and respect for all people.
"The best thing I can possibly do is raise my children to understand what love is," Ortiz said. "Make sure that they're taken care and that they're going to grow up and treat people with kindness and respect."
